Tours across Montana

**NOTE: this is a four-month contract for a tour that will span the state of Montana. Alongside a weekly salary, if a student at the University of Montana is cast, they will receive 9 hours credit that can replace some required theatre and elective courses – but will not be able to take in-person coursework in the Fall semester of 2025, unless that coursework is remote.

All actors cast will also serve as ASMs and are required to unload/load, setup and/or strike the set. No single piece of scenery shall exceed such proportions of height or weight as to make it impossible to be carried reasonably by two members of the company. All actors cast will also teach workshops to middle and high school students as part of the assignment. While traveling, lodging and per diem for meals will be provided on top of the weekly salary. Actors must have local Missoula housing as the tour will return to Missoula on weekends and for some weeks where no shows are booked. Weekly pay may be pro-rated on weeks where few or no shows are booked.

ABOUT THE SCRIPT:
The Spruce Creek High School theatre club is putting on a play, an adaption of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice” stories. When AJ is cast as the fearsome Jabberwock, memorizing the famous poem awakens long-buried memories full of teeth, claws, and everything in between. As AJ prepares for opening night, an old hardship and an unlikely friendship collide — leaving AJ wondering if fear has been telling the wrong story.

With humor, heart, and a touch of Carrollian wonder, JabberDoggy explores how the stories we tell—on stage and in our minds—shape our fears, and how friendship can help us rewrite them.

SEEKING:
A.J.  [20s to play 14 y/o; any gender] A high school freshman who is beginning to love reading but probably doesn’t tell many people. Bright and curious, not shy in front of a crowd. As a freshman, AJ isn’t yet a “theatre kid,” but probably will become one in the course of time. When AJ was younger, they were attacked by a dog. That injury has stuck around... in more ways than one.

ACTOR [20s; female identifying] Plays various people of AJ's imagination, including Ms. Zolinoulski, a high school drama teacher, Cork, a high school student and AJ's good friend, a big scary dog, a friendly dog, young A.J., a police officer... and more!
